Our crew, mid-buildA Word From The Owner
Composite done right, by the family
“Composite only looks effortless when the frame under it is built right. We over-build the framing, flash every ledger, and run hidden fasteners so your Trex or TimberTech boards lie flat and tight for decades — that's us in the photo, laying the boards ourselves. No rotating subs, no surprises.”

In Depth
Why a composite deck is the smart build in NJ
Composite and capped-PVC decking has quietly become the most-requested deck material in New Jersey — and for good reason. Brands like Trex, TimberTech, AZEK, Fiberon, and Wolf wrap a wood-flour-and-polymer core in a hard protective shell that resists fading, staining, scratching, and mold. That means no annual sanding, staining, or sealing — you pressure-wash it a couple of times a year and it looks new for decades. In our freeze-thaw, humid-summer climate, that durability is exactly what holds up.
The catch most homeowners don't hear: composite boards are only as good as the frame beneath them. Composite is heavier than wood and expands and contracts with temperature, so it demands tighter joist spacing, proper gapping, and a dead-flat, properly flashed structure. This is where a lot of cheaper installs fail within a few years — wavy boards, popped fasteners, and a soft frame underneath a 'lifetime' surface. We build the structure to outlast the boards: pressure-treated framing, correct joist spacing for composite, hidden-fastener systems, and a ledger that's flashed so water never reaches your house.
We install every major composite and PVC system sold in NJ, and at your free estimate we'll tell you straight which one fits — Trex for proven value and color range, TimberTech and AZEK for the most realistic grain and the coolest surface underfoot, Fiberon and Wolf for larger decks on a working budget. We'll match boards to your sun exposure, your color, and how you actually plan to use the space, and we pull the township permit and build to NJ code so it passes inspection the first time.
Father & Sons has been a family-owned contractor in North Jersey since 1972. Every composite deck is owner-supervised, built by the same crew that quotes it, with a written price that doesn't move. Right now you can take $1,000 off a new composite deck — call for a free on-site measure.

Common Questions
Composite & Trex Decks FAQs
Straight answers, no sales scripts. Anything else — just call.
Call (201) 790-3303How much does a composite/Trex deck cost in NJ?
Composite costs more per square foot than pressure-treated wood up front, but it pays back in zero maintenance and a longer life. Final price depends on size, height, railing type, and the board line you choose. We give free, detailed written estimates with direct pricing — no financing markups — and you can take $1,000 off projects over $15,000.
Is Trex really maintenance-free?
Effectively, yes. Capped composite never needs staining or sealing — it just needs an occasional wash with soap and water (or a gentle pressure-wash) a couple of times a year to keep it looking new. There's no annual refinishing like a wood deck demands.
How long does composite decking last?
Quality capped composite and PVC boards from Trex, TimberTech, and AZEK carry 25–50 year manufacturer warranties and routinely last that long or more. With a code-built, properly flashed frame underneath — where we're meticulous — your deck is a decades-long investment.
Does composite get hot in the sun?
Darker boards in full sun get warm, like any deck surface, but newer capped lines run noticeably cooler. For sunny exposures we'll recommend the lighter, heat-managed colors and lay out the deck so it's comfortable underfoot all season.
Can you replace my old wood deck boards with composite?
Often, yes — if the existing frame is sound, properly spaced, and flashed for composite, we can re-deck over it (a resurface). If the frame isn't right for composite, we'll tell you honestly and quote a rebuild rather than risk a wavy, failing surface.
Which composite brand is best?
There's no single 'best' — it depends on your budget and use. Trex offers proven value and color range; TimberTech/AZEK give the most realistic grain and coolest surface; Fiberon/Wolf are strong mid-range picks for bigger decks. We install them all and recommend what genuinely fits your project.
Do you handle permits for a composite deck?
Yes — we handle the entire township permit and inspection process so your deck is engineered and 100% compliant with NJ building code. You don't deal with any paperwork.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — we're a fully licensed, bonded, and insured NJ home improvement contractor, family-owned and operating since 1972 out of North Jersey.
